Who is Cavalier Telephone?

Cavalier Telephone is a communications company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Cavalier was founded with the specific mission of bringing residential and business customers a choice in communications providers. Our management team collectively has over a century of experience building and operating fiber optic telephone networks throughout the United States. Cavalier launched service in 1998 and now offers service to residential and business customers in central and eastern Virginia, as well as regions of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Michigan, Ohio, New York and Georgia.

Is Cavalier Telephone's service reliable?

Yep. Cavalier has made a multi-million investment on a fiber-optic network, utilizing the latest in Lucent & Nortel digital switching equipment, so you can be sure it’s reliable. Cavalier uses a self-healing ring architecture in its fiber network design. This means if the cable is ever accidentally cut, all traffic is immediately reversed along the ring and there is no disruption to your service. Cavalier's Lucent 5E & Nortel switches are equipped with both battery and diesel generation power back-up systems, so if the power ever fails Cavalier will continue to provide all of its customers ongoing telephone service, no matter how long it takes for power restoration.

When I become a Cavalier customer, how long until I will see a cost savings?

Immediately. Depending on the package you choose, you will see savings on your first bill.

What types of services do you offer?

We offer the latest in advanced telephone services (local, long distance, state-of-the-art calling features), Internet access over 56K dial-up Internet service and high speed DSL, as well as Digital TV service in some areas.

What speeds will I get with DSL?

Cavalier Telephone offers CavVelocity DSL with download speeds up to 8 mbps. The actual connection speed you receive will vary depending upon the distance to the CO (telephone equipment office) in your area and the quality of signal your particular line can support. Unlike other companies, Cavalier does not apply a surcharge for the highest connection speeds.

What kind of modem do I need for DSL and where do I get one?

Cavalier Telephone will supply you with the proper modem for your new DSL service. Cavalier will ship the DSL modem, self-install kit and telephone filters directly to your home for a one-time fee of $9.95.

Can I keep my present phone number?

Yes, you may keep your present number. In fact, your current provider is charging all customers a monthly fee for this service, even if you never switch providers. If you prefer, you can receive a new telephone number.

Will I have one bill for local telephone and long distance?

Because Cavalier also offers its customers' long distance service and internet service, we do not bill for other carriers. You will receive all of your communications services on one easy-to-read bill.

Will I still be in the phone book and have access to directory assistance?

Your directory listing will remain the same. All Cavalier Telephone customers will be listed in the Verizon phone book. You will also have access to local as well as national directory assistance resources.

Our goal is to switch our customers over with minimal inconvenience. Typically, we can switch customers over to our service within 15-20 business days. You will be notified of the date of the switchover, and typically a residential customer will be without service for only five to ten minutes while the actual switch over takes place.
